4-7-8 Calming Breath
A technique to activate your body's natural calming response when anxiety or overwhelm rises.
⏱ 5 minutesWhen your nervous system has been conditioned by trauma, it can go into fight-or-flight mode even when you are safe. This breathing pattern gently signals to your body that the danger has passed. It can be done anywhere — at your desk, in the car, in bed before sleep.
How to Practice
Note: If holding your breath feels uncomfortable, simply breathe in for 4 counts and out for 8 counts without the hold. Always honor what your body needs.
